This small (900 sq ft) cottage is the gate house for a large home on a generous site and set the tone for all of the development. While the exterior fits in with the Volcano Cottage style seen all over the area, the interior is quite a surprise indeed.
Involving three levels, the dynamic of the spaces belies the small square footage and offers a range of “spaces within spaces” that significantly enlarges the feeling of the cottage.
With a single bedroom, occasional guests can be accommodated in a sleeping loft at the very top of the house with views into the surrounding forest.
The detailing is extensive, including stained glass treatments in the skylight and crisp woodwork in all areas. The inclusion of unworked native logs as main support columns brings in the rustic cottage look that is so well suited to Volcano.
